SIGONELLA, Italy - Two important accreditation milestones were reached during the latest meeting of the NATO Lifecycle Accreditation and Security Board (LASAB), hosted at the Italian Air Force Base in Sigonella. The newly commissioned NISRF operations building received full security accreditation for its AGS Core Ground Segment and Backbone, while the deployable Mobile General Ground Station (MGGS) was granted interim certification for operational use.

The accreditation of the new facility enhances the secure and resilient infrastructure supporting NISRF’s role as the “Home of Allied ISR”. The certification of the MGGS, meanwhile, strengthens NISRF’s ability to provide deployable ISR support. The system will be used operationally next year when it is scheduled to be forward positioned in Finland.

These accreditations are an important milestone on our road to Full Operational Capability

Brigadier General John B. Creel, Commander of NISRF, underlined the significance of these developments: “These accreditations are an important milestone on our road to Full Operational Capability and demonstrate the close corporation between NISRF, NATO organizations and our industry partners.”

As NATO’s Lifecycle Accreditation and Security Board, LASAB ensures that operational systems across the ISR enterprise meet rigorous security and interoperability standards. Its close coordination with NISRF allows updates and improvements to be implemented more rapidly and with tangible operational benefit.

LASAB Secretary Mr. Francois S. from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) emphasized: “Our work with NISRF demonstrates how accreditation and security processes directly contribute to NATO’s overall ISR readiness. The successful certification of these elements ensures safe, secure and interoperable systems for the Alliance.”

The meeting brought together representatives from the Host Nation Italy, NISRF, NATO agencies and industry partners. In Sigonella, board members received insight into NISRF operations and saw firsthand how the newly accredited systems and infrastructure will support the Alliance’s ISR mission.
