Colonel Sánchez-Arjona graduated from the Spanish Air Force Academy in 1992, after which he served as a pilot in the 35th Airlift Wing for nearly eleven years, participating in several NATO, European Union and United Nations led operations.
In 2003 he was promoted to major, and assigned to the Logistics Branch of the Air Staff, where he served until he was selected to take the Spanish Armed Forces Joint Staff Course, which he finished in July 2006.
After that he served at the Logistics Branch of the General Air Command, before being assigned to the Joint Staff Transformation Unit, where he served for two years.
Then he was selected as squadron commander and director of the Cartographic and Photographic School, a training center that belongs to the Spanish Air Force Cartographic and Photographic Center (CECAF), which integrates the topographic and photogrammetric capabilities of the Spanish Air Force, as well as some of its aerial imagery capacities, including two flight squadrons and the mentioned school that provides training related to these subjects, including a photointerpretation course. During his 4-year assignment to this unit, he also served a 6-month tour in Afghanistan, as member of the J4 cell of the Regional Command West HQ in Herat.
From 2011 to 2015 he served at the Spanish Armed Forces Operations Command, as staff officer of the J4A cell, after which he was posted to NATO Allied Command Transformation (Norfolk, USA), where he was assigned for three years to the Logistics, Deployment and Sustainment Branch.
After this overseas assignment, he was promoted to Colonel at the end of 2019 and selected to lead the Flight Safety cell of the Air Staff, until he got his last assignment before NISRF: Commander of the Spanish Air Force Cartographic and Photographic Center (CECAF).
Colonel Sánchez-Arjona has been the Support Wing Commander of NATO ISR Force since August 1. 2022.
