Colonel Juan Carlos Domínguez has been the Support Wing Commander NATO Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Force since July 2025. Colonel Domínguez holds the rating of fighter pilot with over 3,000 hours in various aircraft.
Military Academics and Career Highlights
- Colonel Domínguez graduated from the Spanish Air Force Academy in July 1994, as a Lieutenant.
- As a student pilot, he flew 4 different aircraft: ENAER Pillan, CASA C-101 “Aviojet”, Northrop T-38 “Talon” and Northrop F-5. He graduated from the ESP AF Academy with the fighter pilot award (granted by ESP AF Fighter/Attack Training Wing, Ala 23), and the USAF Pilot aeronautical award, having also completed the Undergraduate Pilot Training T-38 Program (UPT Class 94/11, Vance Air Force Base, OK).
- Spanish Armed Forces Joint Staff Course (2006-2007). Colonel Domínguez graduated as Joint Staff Officer, after completion of ESP Joint Staff Course in ESFAS (Escuela Superior de las Fuerzas Armadas, Madrid).

- 1994-2005 (Ranks: Lt/Cap): 12TH Fighter Wing (Torrejon Air Base, Madrid). During this period, Colonel Domínguez flew the RF4-C Phantom II, as Recce Pilot (123rd Squadron), and the EF-18(M) as multirole fighter pilot (122nd Squadron).

Leading 4 Sqns, responsible for the synchronization of ESP AF Intel, JISR and Targeting cycles at tactical level. Responsible for ESP AF tactical Intel fusion, targeting works, Air launched Cruise Missiles Planning and MQ-9 PED, among other tasks.
Operational Background
- NATO operations in former Yugoslavia (SFOR, IFOR and KFOR): During the period 1995-2003, contribution to several International NATO Missions in Bosnia and Kosovo (“Allied Force”, “Joint Force”, “Deliberate Force” and “Joint Guardian”).
- NATO ISAF Mission in Afghanistan (2010/2011): Staff officer at Regional Command West HQ, and member of the ASFAO team at the RAOCC. Senior to 6x ESP TACP (JTAC) Teams in Afghanistan.
- ESP JFAC: Several activations during 2020-2023. Afghanistan (HKIA) NEO Op., SUDAN NEO Op.
