NATO RQ-4D Phoenix

NISRF has five NATO RQ-4D “Phoenix” remotely piloted aircraft. The aircraft are equipped with a multi-platform radar technology insertion programme (MP-RTIP) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) ground surveillance radar sensors, as well as an extensive suite of line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight, long-range, wideband data links.

Who is operating the aircraft? The PHOENIX Cockpit Team

The PHOENIX Pilot

- Flies the aircraft remotely

- Monitors the aircraft's movements during the flight and ensures that it follows the pre-programmed route

- Communicates with outside entities to coordinate the mission

The PHOENIX Sensor Operator

- Directs the sensor and navigates between modes to optimize intelligence gathering

- Updates the collection plan in real time

- Monitors the sensor status

- Helps the intelligence team control image quality and prioritize targets
